Speed costs, how fast do you want to go?

You'll go fast.

More people will likely jump in here, but I assume you're planning on building yourself, as opposed to buying "off the rack"?

SSD should have been the first thing out of your mouth Waysa.

I have an Intel 3570K oc'd to 4.4 running @64C average.  Got that and Gigabyte mobo for a good price at Microcenter.  With 8gb ram I believe it was around $360.

Samsung seems to be highly regarded.

I personally have 2 OCZ, and there was some weird firmware issue with them that affected like 60% of the computers they were in, but it was based on what board you were using.
I lucked out, no issues at all.

I will say this, a solid state drive is probably one of the best bang for your buck upgrades you can get, performance wise.

Gonna put together some links for you, I will give you an option for 1K and if you're really serious, a 2k rig.

Re: In need of desktop.

on another side note, do you guys run 1 ssd for games/boot/programs and then a slave 10krpm hard drive for mass storage or do you run 2x ssd? or one massively exspensive large forma ssd?

Re: In need of desktop.

I have 2 ssd.  One is for the os, one for game installs and apps.

I then have a raid 1 of regular HDD strictly for storage of files.
