I like this video because it doesn't have all the crappy editing that you see in most frag videos today. I'm talking about the ones that are 4 minutes long with a 2 minute intro and 1 minute of inside jokes/credits/whatever at the end. If you want a two minute intro the actual gameplay footage better be over 10 minutes long haha.
Also makes me want to play this game. It finally came in today but not sure how much time I'm gonna have to play this (or anything) until sometime in May or so. April is shaping up to be a busy month
Alright, ordered this off amazon, should be in sometime next week.
I'm really bad at these type of games, so take it easy on me.
So is it possible to get these perks in-game? Also will I have to pay extra money for the maps? If the maps are free and the perks can still be obtained I might buy the original version off Amazon (which doesn't have LE) since I have a gift card there. Certainly beats spending $50 on Steam.
From what I understand the VIP thing is only for the consoles to persuade people not to buy it used. Is this present on the PC as well?
ok I'm still trying to decide whether or not I want to spend the little money I have on this game. If so, is the limited edition worth getting? It's $50 on Steam ($10 cheaper than everywhere else) which is basically the price that the regular version goes for on retail.
So I guess the general consensus is this game is at least decent? I want to get it but I'm not convinced enough that it's worth $50. Maybe I'll get lucky and it goes on sale soon, if not hopefully I'm a tad richer this summer.
is the beta just for preorders only? I'm interested in getting this game but don't wanna preorder it until I try it first. Looks great but not unfortunately not sold on it yet.
If not guess I'll wait for the demo to drop.
merry Christmas to all. Hope Santa was good to all ya.
Hopefully I'll be back playing in the near future. I planned on it over the next few weeks but unfortunately my GPU crapped out and I'm no longer under warranty. So I'm stuck on a pentium 4 from 2001 and a 4-year old laptop with integrated graphics for at least the next week or so.

add me if you like!
never really got into CS Source much myself. I played the original with friends back in the day but it just doesn't appeal to me much anymore. About DoD Source I picked it up a year or two ago when it was $5 on Steam but still don't think I've played it haha. Been obsessively playing TF2 and some Left 4 Dead 2, the former which is free this weekend and receiving a major update.
The lights kinda gave it away. The one to the right is DEFINITELY his.
Now look what Activison is up to!

They better not prevent me from getting Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3.
I hear it's one of those games that you'll play obsessively for a couple of weeks and then stop playing. It seems that everyone is getting tired of it after 50-60 hours of play in 3 weeks. I probably won't have the time to play that much for another month or so, and no one will be playing anymore then
I have to disagree with the Steam bashing!
It does collect anonymous hardware data from your computer but I'd take that any day over DRM. Plus it automatically updates your game (unless you turn that off) so you never have to download patches or worry about anything of that sort. It makes everything convenient; all your games in the same place, friends list, automatic updates, etc. VAC isn't as good as punkbuster but is much more consistent. Not as effective at catching hackers but you never have to update it or worry about it randomly kicking people for no reason
So Steam integration isn't a bad idea to me at all. However no dedicated servers is!

wrong - wrong and wrong.
Since I have joined ESAW: my erectile dysfunction has been cured, I have straightened the curvature of my spine, I no longer walk with a limp, I have dropped 22 pounds, the ladies suddenly tell me I am hung like a donkey (hee haw!), I have more friends, less enemies, regular bowel movements, epic stamina, maximum dexterity, increased performance capabilities, better night vision and I can urinate long distances.
ESAW is the medicine we have all been waiting for.
Word.
But notice he never said anything about back hair. I never said there aren't pluses to wearing tags!
Congrats! though rumor has it wearing ESAW tags increases back hair growth by 250%.

I'm all for the idea of competition and have some suggestions!
-I think you're complicating this too much with the rules and all. Think we should stick with either stock or hardcore and maybe play by CEVO or TWL rules (no perks but maybe bandolier, etc). Also no real need for officers since that might be too complicated, one captain and everyone else should be fine. Don't think we need to really worry about cheating if this is made up of regulars and just for fun.
-A draft could work, but how about making the captains (who have a decent grasp of everyone's skill level) agree upon teams? This would assure fairly balanced teams.
-25 player max roster seems like too much. Maybe shoot for 8 teams of 7 or so and play 5 on 5 (since some might not be able to show, etc), unless you're confident that you can get enough people.
-For maps we should have a map pool of maybe 10-15 choices max and have each team pick one. The map pool should be agreed upon by the captains/admins. Maybe play best of 3 and the third map chosen at random. The map pool is essential, I was in a competition for another game once and this screwed everyone but one team over.
I'll enter if I can get on and practice again before this all starts. Will be busy the next 2 weeks and haven't played in a long time but if I can get back in the groove of things I'm down.
Yesterday was my birthday as well so add someone else to that list! Plus I know 3 people with a birthday today.
Halloween annoys me so I'm either gonna go drinking or just sleep through the whole thing.
Awesome, I've been addicted to Team Fortress 2 and a little bit of Killing Floor so I haven't played CoD in forever. The suckiness of MW2 and new maps is giving me a reason to come back.
Hopefully I get a chance to be on next weekend (lost of stuff to do this week + Left 4 Dead 2 demo drops). By the way is this stock or hardcore?
But Obama told me change is good!
About matchmaking: sometimes it works great. In RTS (namely battle.net) it works fine. In Left 4 Dead you can pick your own servers but for the most part matchmaking is way more convenient. Problem is it isn’t always the best option. It works in L4D because it’s a cooperative teamwork type game and making sure games are full is essential. Yes, there are flaws in L4D’s matchmaking that nearly kill the game (why I only play it with Steam friends) but it also helps the experience a lot. On the other hand for CoD if a large server (say, ESAW’s) is full and half the people leave you can still continue the game just fine. That’s not the case for L4D or Starcraft.
It seems that the move is towards more team oriented games such as L4D, Team Fortress, etc. True DM games are dying, which is why we don’t see Quake and Unreal type games anymore. Call of Duty seems like a transition between the two. It has elements of newer games but maintains the same spirit of 90’s titles. I guess this is the next one to go.
The biggest reason why PC gaming is “dying†is because the console market is essentially the same. In the past, the console market used to be dominated by Japan and was entirely different than the PC market, which mainly consisted of western games. Think about it in the 90’s: PC’s had Doom, Half-life, Quake, Starcraft, System Shock, Diablo etc. Western games. Consoles had Super Mario, Final Fantasy, Zelda, Castlevania, and other mainly Japanese titles. They were completely different markets and ever since Xbox came along Western games have been dominating consoles (Halo, Grand Theft Auto, Gears of war, Call of Duty to name a few). So the only difference between PC and console is whether one prefers to play on a TV screen with a controller or on a computer with a keyboard and mouse. PC’s provide what I believe is a much deeper and more rewarding experience, but the fact of the matter is people generally would rather have something cheaper, more stable, and easier to use. Consoles are great for the fact that you can just put a game in, turn it on and play. No need to worry about downloading maps, finding a server manually, tweaking settings, and updating punkbuster after it kicks you for the 100 time.
Plus piracy has definitely played a factor in Infinity Ward’s decision. They even said over and over again that the number of pirated keys playing online was unbelievably high and that their heart is with the consoles due to this (and the fact that the sales are higher). Integrating the game into Steam was a great start since VAC is way better than Punkbuster and it’s tougher to pirate. However, no dedicated servers shows me that they just gave up on the PC market and are just giving PC gamers the sloppy seconds.
For me I’ll most likely get the game when it goes down to $20 or play my brothers’ since he plans on getting it for his Xbox. I’m not spending $60 for a 5-6 hour single player campaign.
I play mostly Team Fortress 2 and Left 4 Dead but don't recommend either of them. The former is great fun but it might be difficult to get into competitive play since people have been playing for two years and are incredibly good. The latter sucks for competition, period, and is only good to play with friends once in a while.
Think I'm gonna start playing MW again. The original plan was to stop playing it so I'm not burnt out by the time MW2 comes out but with the recent announcement it looks like I'll be sticking with MW for a while. I might start playing it again in a week or so, just need to fix the lag problems I was having haha.
Personally I'd just stick with MW, that what I'm guessing most clans and competitive players are going to do. Can't see the competitive scene taking off on MW2 without dedicated servers.
A custom map/mod server would be great. If it's possible map vote would be great as well. This way we can vote on game types, maps, etc every round.
I was just gonna post this earlier this afternoon but you guys beat me to it. If everything is as it sounds (i.e. identical to Xbox and PS3 versions) I'm not getting this game. I don't think most MW players will want to play this, either.
I'm all for Steam support since most gaming stuff I do is over Steam (don't use xfire anymore) but I'm not getting this game if there's no dedicated servers.
At least I'll be saving 60 bucks since I"m not spending 60 bucks for 5 hours of singleplayer (doubt it will be much longer than MW). I'll just pirate the game or something.
I clicked this topic expecting something else.
Than reminds me this weekend I plan on ordering it for 30 bucks, student discount. Good thing I still have another semester of college left.
So far I hear it's better than Vista but I'm gonna wait until November or so when I can hear from everyone about how it is and if it's worth installing.
edit - didn't see the links above. That's where I ordered it from though.
Same engine is nice since I don't want a new PC yet, but I can't believe the game is $60! Just spent $45 on Left 4 Dead 2 (which I don't really want but people were begging me to get) which is the most I've ever spent on a game. Second most was $40 on the original modern warfare.
yeah I know I haven't played in a very long time, just wanted to try other stuff for a bit because I know when MW2 comes out it will be all I'm playing for a while. Maybe if you're all lucky everyone's favorite grenade target might be back around the end of this month to warm up a bit. nyc server, though; I don't feel like dying from a usp shot to the foot for now.
